Local Hospice gears up for the future with appointment of new Director of Fundraising and Lottery
Abi Smith has been appointed interim director of fundraising and lottery for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd after recently joining the local hospice as their Corporate Fundraising Manager.
Abi, who joined the hospice after leaving her role as Chief Executive of the Railway Benevolent Fund, will oversee the development of the local charity that celebrated its 25th Anniversary last year and will lead the fundraising and lottery teams with a vision to create the best donor journey for its supporters.
Her appointment by the hospice comes at a crucial time in the hospice history who have launched a capital appeal to raise £2.2 million that will double the size of the existing building located in Backford, Chester and provide specialist care and support for the next 25 years.
Abi brings with her a wealth of experience in previous roles including nine years at Wirral based Children’s Hospice Claire House. She is keen to see some new and exciting events taking place over the next few years with fresh and engaging ways that the community, businesses and stakeholders can get behind and support their local hospice.
In addition to her raft of experience Abi also brings in energy and enthusiasm through her passion for the Hospice movement and has been known to stand in a field in the pouring rain during the day and at night be attending a cocktail party, after getting changed in a toilet!
Abi says, “The local hospice provides an invaluable service to its local community. At some point we are all effected by the loss of a loved one and having the medical, practical, emotional, spiritual and social support at a time when people need it most and that’s why we need to ensure we raise the necessary funds to keep the hospice open.”
Steve Hoy, CEO said, “We are delighted to appoint Abi as the new Interim Fundraising and Lottery Director. She brings with her a wealth of experience and ideas to energise the Fundraising and Lottery team that bodes well for the future growth of the Hospice and indeed for the short term funding of the capital appeal.”
