Kelsborrow Choir Diamond Celebration
Music brings support to local Hospice of the Good Shepherd!
On one of the hottest days of the year, Kelsborrow Choir celebrated their Diamond Anniversary alongside the famous Roberts Bakery Band to over 600 people on Saturday 6 May in support of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd’s From Silver to Gold appeal.
The audience were warmly welcomed by local ITV Presenter Lucy Meacock, whose father passed away at the hospice when it first opened back in 1989 and Lucy announced her support for such a worthy cause. The choir and band then opened the evening with a Fanfare, followed by an eclectic mix of music including a medley from Andrew Lloyd’s Webber Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera. This was followed a fantastic performance by Robert’s Bakery Band who recently won the First Section Prize at the North West Area Contest in Blackpool.
Steve Hoy, Chief Executive of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd gave a heartfelt thanks to the Choir and Band and congratulated them on such a monumental occasion on reaching such an amazing milestone. He thanked the audience for attending the event and for showing their support to the local hospice over the years, he said, “The hospice provides care, compassion and support to local people. We work together to get through difficult times and that includes love and humour – it’s what’s seen us through the past 25 years.”
He went on to announce the Hospice £2.2 million ‘From Silver to Gold’ appeal that will double the size of the existing hospice at Backford and provide additional Day Therapy from 1000 local people each year to 1700 people, he said, “We support over 1500 people every year and the need is growing – we are supporting patients with increasingly complex conditions that require both enhanced levels of care and the space to provide that care. The ‘From Silver to Gold’ appeal shows our commitment to continue to offer that care for the next 25 years.”
Dr Isabelle Hughes, a Trustee of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and a member of Kelsborrow Choir, said “I know that Kelsborrow Choir and Roberts Bakery Band have helped to get the public From Silver to Gold appeal off to a tremendous start. Music is a medium that has the power to raise people spirits and make them feel positive about life and it was a privilege to be able to support them.”
