Four Good Ladies are Entrepreneurs to local Hospice
Christmas can be a poignant time for many where people will be remembering someone special, others will be requiring support from our Hospice and there will be those who will be spending their Christmas here at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd with us.
The Hospice pride itself on celebrating Christmas in style and organise a number of festive activities which bring joy to our patients, their families, our staff and volunteers.
Over many years, four local ladies called Kath, Joyce, Sue and Mel have dedicated an evening a week at the Hospice to create all sorts of craft goods, from beautiful Christmas tree decorations to Easter bunnies. They then spend many afternoons and weekends selling their beautiful crafts at fairs, fetes and care homes to generate funds for materials needed in our Day Therapy Centre.
As many of our patients are unable to get out and about over the Christmas season, the group set up a table of handcrafted items for patients to purchase in return for a donation to the Hospice. The table has a fantastic array of items, including beautiful Christmas Garlands which are always popular, and make perfect gifts.
Vanessa Brown, Clinical Services Manager at the Hospice said, “We are extremely grateful for the support these ladies have offered to us over the years. The Christmas table has always been popular with our patients as it gives them the opportunity to buy gifts for their friends and family independently as they are often unable to get out and shop.”
The ladies are delighted that the patients and staff at the Hospice get a lot out of their support and Kath said, “It is a pleasure to be able to work with such a wonderful Hospice. We have made many friends through our support of the Hospice over the years and are delighted that it helps our patients over the festive season.”
