11 September 2022 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

BRAND NEW for 2022 with free entry!

Hospice of the Good Shepherd 7 Locks, 7 Mile Grand Canal Sponsored Walk

Join us on Sunday 11th September for a 7 mile stroll along the Shropshire Union Canal to help raise money for your local Hospice.

Setting off from the Hospice, where you can park for free, you will walk through Backford village and join the Shropshire Union Canal Path. You’ll follow the canal right around Chester city centre and out to Christleton finishing off at The Cheshire Cat pub, where you will have the opportunity to stop for lunch.
The route will take you past various sights including 7 locks, one of which being the famous Northgate Staircase Locks, if you are lucky enough you may catch a glimpse of a narrowboat travelling through! There’s also 19 bridges along the route of all different architecture and design, you’ll be going under and over them get to the finishing point.

We will be running shuttle buses from The Cheshire Cat back to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd to collect your vehicle so there’s no need to worry about getting back to the car to get home.

The event is free entry!! We will even provide you with a bacon butty (or vegan alternative) and hot drink before you set off on the walk.

All we ask is that you collect  as much sponsorship money as possible . If you feel you can’t raise sponsorship we would ask you to make an optional donation in lieu of sponsorship.

Registration is now open! You also have the option to purchase a unique Event T-shirt for £5 to wear for the walk and take home as a reminder of a great event!
Why not book lunch at The Cheshire Cat for when you arrive before catching the bus back to the Hospice? All walkers will receive a 10% off food voucher to make the most of their time at end of the route. You can book a table and view The Cheshire Cat menu here https://www.vintageinn.co.uk/restaurants/north-west/thecheshirecatchristleton#/

Well behaved dogs are welcome to take part!

N.B Unfortunately, due to the route of the walk, the event is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Please note, please sign up before Sunday 4th September if you would like to register for an event t-shirt. Free registration will finish on Tuesday 6th September, after this date there will be a £20 registration fee as we would not expect you to raise any sponsorship when signing up so close to the event date.
