Starlight Stroll 2009
Over 600 ladies took to the street of Chester on Saturday 5th September to take part in the Hospice of the Good Shepherd's second ever 6 mile sponsored midnight walk.
Ladies and girls of all ages, shapes and sizes wearing Starlight Stroll T-shirts and flashing bunny ears, some even carrying memory balloons, started the evening with refreshments and a warm up by GI Jane from Be Inspired Boot Camp.
At the stroke of Midnight the walkers headed off up Nunn’s Road, through Curzon Park to Handbridge. There were so many ladies crossing the Dee Suspension Bridge that it began to sway which all added to the fun. Some walkers also paused for a reflective moment and released their balloons in memory of Mums, Nanas, Sisters and Dads. Cars beeped their horns as they saw the groups of ladies and girls pass the amphitheatre and along the canal towpath to the half-way point. Here much appreciated refreshments, courtesy of Francis Thomas were served.
Walkers then continued past the Cathedral and through the city centre where they were met with local revellers giving words of encouragement and the occasional donation. The final stage of the route took them along the city walls and back to the Racecourse. One walker said to her daughter: “See, aren’t you glad you did that for your Nana, she would be so proud of you if she were here”.
Groups of friends, families and walkers on their own were all greeted with a medal of achievement, goody bag courtesy of Elemis and a welcome bacon bap from Heathcotes.

The Hospice would like to say a huge thank you to all those ladies who took part in the Starlight Stroll, it was an amazing night and one I hope you all remember for a very long time to come. We would also like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers and stewards that helped out on the night, these types of events just wouldn't be possible without those generous people giving up their free time to help us put on these fantastic events.
