£40,000 PLEDGED AT THE SUNRISE STROLL
At 5.00am on Sunday 27th May more than 600 excited, bleary-eyed supporters of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd gathered together at Chester racecourse to take part in the Sunrise Stroll. Starting at the racecourse the walk continued over the City walls, and 4 miles down the Canal path to Chester Zoo where the Hospice had laid on refreshments and a comfort break, which came as a welcomed stop for many of the walkers. From the Zoo the walk went through Upton and Newton and along the Millennium cycle route back to the racecourse.
Despite the weather being wet and miserable there was not one walker who let it put a damper on their enthusiasm. Event organiser Jemma Hamilton added “It was uplifting to see so many smiling faces when people crossed the finish line, everyone held their chin up high and soldiered through the rain. We are so grateful to everyone who took part and hope to see everyone again next year, along with the sun!”
£40,000 was pledged on the morning of the Sunrise Stroll, this was an over- whelming and unexpected amount, so thank you so much to all those who took part and for all your fundraising efforts. We hope everyone enjoyed the walk as much as we enjoyed organising it. The money raised from this event will help to secure the ongoing provision of care to patients living with life limiting conditions. The Hospice needs to raise over £6,000 each day to provide services free of charge to local people. This is only made possible because people care enough to give their ongoing support in so many different ways.
May I remind our walkers to please keep sending your sponsorship to the Fundraising Office.
