Macmillan Nurses
Macmillan Nurses are registered general nurses who have undergone specialist training in the care and support of patients and their families and carers who are living with cancer.
Their knowledge and expertise in this field plays an important role in enhancing the care cancer patients receive. Macmillan nurses provide support and information for people and their families and carers affected by cancer from the time of diagnosis, during treatment and at any point during the illness. They provide a non-discriminatory and free of charge service within the community NHS Trust.
The Macmillan nurse is a specialist resource and advisor working with medical and nursing colleagues in a variety of settings such as the patient's home, hospice, hospital or residential care.
In addition to their work with patients, families and carers, Macmillan Nurses have a vital role to play in education by sharing their skills with medical and nursing colleagues. They provide formal and informal teaching to all those involved in the care of those living with cancer.
Macmillan Nurses aim to expand and develop their services by using existing current research and participating in specific local and national research projects.
